Tired of the screeching wails from the Blue Line CTA between Grand and Clark? Or waiting for the 4/5/6 train at Union Square in NYC (probably the loudest subway platform in the world)? Get yourself some foam earplugs, but as importantly, learn how to put them in properly. Foamies will block out a ton of sound IF you get them deeply in your ear canal. Remember that even soft, squishy generic earplugs will not fit all ear canals. If they fall out of your ears, see an audiologist, get a hearing test and ear impressions for custom earplugs.

Research for the nerds out there: If someone shows you how to properly use earplugs, you’ll block out more noise.
